Children's Playset Remodel

I had always wanted a playset for my kids however as a stay at home living off of one income they seemed to be out of reach. However with a little elbow grease we were able to get this one for out kids for only $150 in repairs. I thought I would share this project with everyone who is looking for an inexpensive playset or is wondering how to repair the one they have.

1. Find Playset If You Don't Already Have one.

First find a playset we found this one online that someone was giving away for free. Of course it was free because it was broken and they didn't think that it could be fixed and as you can see below it was not in the best condition.

2. Clean Playset

The playset was very dirty covered in barnacles, moss and dirt. Take a pressure washer and wash every piece of wood and the swings. It is best if you can the playset apart to reach the high pieces, the end result is like new.

3. Replace Rotten Wood Boards

Wood doesn't last forever so in order for your playset to last it is best to replace the rotten boards. Most of the rotten boards that we had to replace were at the bottom boards that sat on the ground.

4. Repair Slide

The main reason that this playset was free was because they slide was cracking at the bottom and the previous owner didn't know how to repair it. My husband and I went through several idea's on how this could be fixed and we were able to come up with an inexpensive solution.

We first thought of buying a new slide however they are very pricey, almost as much as new set, and considering we were trying to send as little as we possible we wanted a different solution. Since the slide was in three pieces we decided to replace the middle. It did take a little thinking outside the box to find out how to replace the middle but we ended up using hockey training surface that you we picked up at Canadian Tire. It was the correct thickness, plastic and came in large enough roll to replace the middle as one whole piece.

Lastly we cut fitted and replaced the middle of the slide to repair it, it worked great

5. Put Playset Put Back Together

Assemble to playset back together and it's all done. We did staple on some outdoor fabric the replace the canopy at the top of the slide and we took off the two handed swing for a baby swing for my daughter. But we have kept the two handed swing for when the kids are older.

Hope this helps you with your playset remodel. Follow me for more at home D.I.Y. projects on a budget.
